What this site is — and what it is not.

Reliability
The site draws on two kinds of source with very different evidential weight. Archival sources — poll tax registers, parish registers, newspapers, gravestones — are primary. Family trees compiled by other userson MyHeritage, Geni and FamilySearch are secondary: they are other researchers’ interpretations, not original documents.
The trees repeatedly disagree with one another. Those conflicts are shown here rather than resolved by picking one version. Where a statement rests on a family tree alone, the text says so.
The person index and the family diagram use a colour code: green means confirmed by a document, amber means a strong but unconfirmed inference. The colour indicates the level of proof, not certainty.
Errors almost certainly remain. Genealogy advances by correction, and this site is a snapshot rather than a conclusion.
Not for legal use
This site must not be used as evidence in matters of inheritance, citizenship or any other official process. Those require certified extracts from parishes and the National Archives. Nothing here is certified, and none of it replaces an official document.
Living people
As a rule only deceasedpeople are published here. The research material contains several living relatives, but their names, dates of birth and relationships have been withheld. The site’s author is the only living person whose details appear, published by his own decision.
The family tree file underlying the research contains personal data of living people. It is neither published nor kept in version control.
If you find information about yourself or a relative that you do not want published, it will be removed on request, with no reasons needed.
Images and copyright
The source images are extracts from archival material and local historical publications, shown for research and citation with the source named. Copyright remains with the original rights holders.
Photographs from printed works are not published without the rights holder’s permission. If any image has ended up here without proper basis, it will be removed immediately on notice.
Corrections
Corrections, additions and removal requests are welcome — particularly if you hold a document that contradicts something stated here. In this work a conflicting source is worth more than a confirming one.
